COPERNICAN PICCOLETO VIII is a prospective, pragmatic, multicenter, non-inferiority, randomised clinical trial that compares the effectiveness of a reduced stent strategy using drug-coated balloons (DCB) for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with the standard drug-eluting stent (DES) treatment in patients with ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI). The aim of the study is to show that the reduced stent strategy is not inferior to the conventional DES-based revascularisation in treating STEMI patients. This study has the potential to significantly impact and improve the current treatment options for patients with this type of heart attack.
