The impact of UEFA Euro 2020 football championship on Takotsubo Syndrome: Results of a multicenter national registry
The UEFA 2020 European Football Championship held in multiple cities across Europe from June 11 to July 11, 2021, was won by Italy, providing an opportunity to examine the relationship between emotional stress and the incidence of acute cardiovascular events (ACE). The data of this national registry demonstrated an association between the semi-final and final of UEFA Euro 2020 and TTS suggesting that it can be triggered by both positive and negative emotions. This highlights the impact of emotional stress on cardiovascular health and the need for further research in this area.
Balloon aortic valvuloplasty review: the revenge during COVID-19 outbreak?
Aortic stenosis is a common condition in older adults and can lead to serious complications if left untreated. While severe aortic stenosis carries a poor prognosis, recent studies have shown an increased risk of death in patients with moderate disease as well. In this paper, we explore the current guidelines for balloon aortic valvuloplasty, a procedure used to treat aortic stenosis. We also discuss the step-by-step technique and potential complications of this procedure. Furthermore, we present a study of 33 patients who underwent balloon aortic valvuloplasty while awaiting transcatheter aortic valve replacement during the COVID-19 pandemic. The success rate of the procedure in this group was 94%, demonstrating its safety and effectiveness even during a time of crisis.
Safety and efficacy of systematic lesion preparation with a novel generation scoring balloon in complex percutaneous interventions: results from a prospective registry
Coronary lesions are a common cardiovascular issue that can lead to serious complications such as restenosis or thrombosis. While predilatation with balloons is a common method for treating these lesions, it may not always be sufficient to achieve optimal stent expansion. This is especially important to consider when using drug coated balloons, as an optimal lesion preparation is crucial for successful outcomes. In such cases, more advanced tools such as cutting/scoring balloons, atherectomy, or lithotripsy may be necessary to achieve the desired results. In this paper, we aimed to investigate the impact of using a dedicated scoring balloon for lesion preparation in patients with high complexity and calcific lesions.
